It’s worth knowing
Knowing your purpose can bring a spark of passion to your life like nothing else. When I was a corporate communicator, I was in a career that I at one time loved. I was filled with passion for offering that service to the world, and it gave me the drive and energy I needed to fulfill what I was called to do at that time. But then there came a time for a change. Today, I am passionate about living out my life calling in way that serves the Lord. I do this through my coaching work, and it impacts every other aspect of my life as well.
Why is living out your passion and purpose so important? They guide you in what choices you make, in what actions you take and so much more. How can you ignite a passion about your purpose?
- No. 1: What do you long for?Cover this question with prayer. I’ve referenced James 1:5 many times, so ask for wisdom from God. He knows what you long for, as it says in Psalms 37:4 – “Delight yourself also in the LORD; and he shall give you the desires of your heart.” What is a desire of your heart?
- No. 2: What inspires you?Another way you can move forward in discovering your passion and purpose is to take time to find out what inspires you. Is it spending time in nature? Or are you rejuvenated by serving others? Make notes on what springs to mind as I ask this question.
- No. 3: What’s important to you?Take time to ask yourself some deeper questions: what matters most for you? What do you love doing? And if you feel like you don’t have anything you are passionate about today, look back to when you were a kid. What was fun then? And how can you apply that to your life today?
Take action
The scriptures say in Proverbs 20:5: “The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out.” That’s what I’m passionate about in my work, helping entrepreneurs and individuals draw out the answers revealed by listening to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
