How do your beliefs impact your potential?

Your beliefs unlock your potential.

What do you think of your ability to achieve your goals? What do you believe is possible? Unpack how your beliefs unlock your potential in today’s Points to Ponder.

I was in a networking meeting this week, and during our time together, we were asked to grab something from our office for a show and tell conversation. I shared this small sign that was given to be by my colleagues at my last job before I launched my coaching business full time. It says: “She believed that she could, so she did!” They gave it to me because I was taking a leap out from what I had known to something brand new. I had to belief that I could do it before I could take steps to make it a reality.

And this sums up what I love about what I do. As a coach, I get to help you hold the space to uncover what you believe is possible. It’s your beliefs that unlock your potential. You can’t change your current circumstances until you’ve changed the way you think about them.

How can you get started unlocking your potential?

No. 1: Be careful how you think

You’ve heard it before, but it’s still true: everything you do is born from your thought life. What you think leads to what you believe, which in turn defines what you can achieve. Look at Proverbs 4:23. It says, “Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts.” So here’s your first step: How can you become more aware of your thoughts?

No. 2: Examine what you believe

Now that you are set on observing your thought life, notice how those thoughts impact what you believe. Take for instance healthy living: Maybe you think you’ll never feel healthy. If that’s what you think, then, how much effort do you put into making healthy choices? Maybe not much. And when you don’t make those choices, it reinforces what you believe, that you’ll never feel healthy. It’s a vicious cycle. In this example, we see that what you think influences what you believe and ultimately, what choices you make. How can you example your beliefs this week?

No. 3: Give voice to your potential

It’s time to start speaking to your possibilities. You’ve looked at your thought life, you are becoming aware of how those thoughts shape your beliefs, and now it’s time to speak verbally to your true potential. Look at Psalm 19:14 that says: “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.” How can you speak words that build up your believe in what you can achieve?
